Next time you’re at your local gas station, look and see if it’s the bright red and white Exxon-Mobil. If you take a trip online, on the other hand, the website of Exxon-Mobil delivers curb-appeal that would lead a gas-consumer feeling proud that he uses Exxon-Mobil locally. From an energy quiz to investor’s daily rise and fall of the stock, this website plainly has it all. On the opening page of the website, global outsourcing and diversity are a common theme. Worldwide operations are clearly presented in high resolution colored templates and pictures. Careers with employees around the globe are boasted, and education grants are expressed with co-ops and internships. Employment on every continent but Australia, the website clearly shows travel advantages of working on the Exxon-Mobil team. The philosophy of safety for our environment is strictly stated being referred to as the OIMS (Operations Integrity Management System). Apparently, this company, according to the website, has reconstructed internal safety protocol and has great intentions for the future in oil. The information is readily available to the public through the user-friendly format of their website. The information seemed very positive and “Green” despite the obviousness of burning fossil fuels. On the website, seemingly every picture depicts solutions to the environment and eco-friendly safety strategies. The overall characteristic of the website is an “Ethos” appeal. The developers of both the website and Exxon-Mobil are clearly well educated in their fields. In my opinion, this may deceptively present a one-sided view of the goals of Exxon-Mobil and other fossil-fuel companies. Overall, this website is very informative and helpful.
